At Phillips 66<\/strong>, internships<\/strong> don\u2019t just build resumes <\/strong>\u2014 they launch careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several Phillips 66 employees, including business leaders, began their journey as interns. Through hands-on work, strong mentorship and a culture that rewards curiosity and growth, they found more than experience \u2014 they found their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stories, stats and advice shared by former interns show just how far that future can go. From cross-country moves to career pivots, from engineering to commercial roles \u2014 these former interns are shaping the company\u2019s future in every corner of the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin Newton<\/strong>,\u00a0Phillips 66 Leak Detection and Repair Supervisor, Midstream,\u00a0<\/em>Class of 2015<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justin\u2019s internship at the Borger Refinery stood out for one reason: the people. \u201cThe employees welcomed us in \u2014 it felt like family,\u201d he said. That culture set the tone for the rest of his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, Justin has taken on roles in environmental, safety and now Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR). \u201cEach role brought a new challenge \u2014 and a new team to grow with,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His advice: <\/strong>\u201cBe hungry. Build relationships. Keep learning \u2014 even outside your job.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Halley Weinstock<\/strong>,\u00a0Phillips 66<\/em> Account Manager, Lubricants \u2013 West Region<\/em>, Class of 2015<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an intern, Halley presented tough findings on a marine lubricants project \u2014 a lesson in having honest, productive conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her career has spanned supply chain, sales and field roles, and she has even supervised interns herself.  \u201cIt was amazing to help guide others through the same program that shaped me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her advice: <\/strong>\u201cUse your voice. Share your goals. Don\u2019t be afraid to ask for what you need to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Alexandra Black<\/strong>, Phillips 66<\/em> Consultant, Business Improvement<\/em>, Class of 2015<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Alexandra\u2019s favorite memories? Climbing the coker tower during an intern unit tour and watching it sway in the wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over a decade at Phillips 66, she has made five cross-country moves and held eight roles. \u201cSpeak up about what you want,\u201d she said. \u201cIf no one knows, you\u2019ll stay where you are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her advice: <\/strong>\u201cStay open to new opportunities. Great careers come from unexpected turns.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

INSIGHTS FROM FORMER INTERNS<\/strong><\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We surveyed over 100 former Phillips 66 interns, asking about their experience, and got a tremendous response. When asked about what they’d tell current interns, the advice echoed a few key themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Ask questions <\/strong>and be curious.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Make connections <\/strong>and build relationships.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Have fun <\/strong>and enjoy the learning process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Stay open <\/strong>to change and opportunity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Career mobility stood out as a common experience \u2014 many former interns have switched business units since joining full-time, showing that growth at Phillips 66 doesn\u2019t follow a straight line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A FEW QUICK STATS<\/strong><\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Of those surveyed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • 46% of respondents interned for two years.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 59% still work in the same business unit <\/strong>where they interned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 36% are engineers.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 33% are in Refining<\/strong>, but former interns now span 11 departments<\/strong>, showing their impact across the company.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
