{"id":68798,"date":"2025-10-22T12:33:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T17:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phillips66.com\/?p=68798"},"modified":"2025-10-23T15:18:01","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T20:18:01","slug":"western-gateway-pipeline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phillips66.com\/newsroom\/western-gateway-pipeline\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Gateway Pipeline: A new corridor for American energy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phillips 66 and Kinder Morgan launch binding open season for Western Gateway Pipeline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-overline\"><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter wp-block-psx-widen-image\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/phillips66.widen.net\/content\/fq3cje4edn\/png\/Connect%20banner%20-%202025-10-23T150736.524.png?crop=true&#038;anchor=0%2C0&#038;color=ffffffff&#038;u=jcixyq&#038;w=1920&#038;h=1080&#038;w=834&#038;h=468\" width=\"834\" height=\"468\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">A proposed new corridor could open a vital connection between Midcontinent refineries and growing markets in Arizona and California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phillips 66 Pipeline and Kinder Morgan have announced the launch of a binding open season for transportation service on the Western Gateway Pipeline, a newly proposed refined products system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>WHY IT MATTERS<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This project aims to enhance energy reliability and address growing demand across the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Western Gateway is a joint industry solution that brings together two leading midstream operators to establish a new corridor for refined products from St. Louis to California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a powerful example of how the industry can collaborate to strengthen energy reliability and meet growing demand across the West,\u201d said Don Baldridge, Phillips 66 executive vice president of midstream and chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe collaboration is also benefited by utilizing existing pipeline infrastructure to provide a comprehensive supply solution for the West that meets current demand and sets the foundation for future growth,\u201d said Mike Garthwaite, Kinder Morgan president of products pipelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project would combine new-build pipeline from Borger, Texas, to Phoenix, Arizona, with a reversal of Kinder Morgan\u2019s existing Santa Fe Pacific Products (SFPP) West Line (which currently flows from Colton, California to Phoenix) to enable east-to-west flows into California. The Phillips 66 Gold Pipeline, which currently flows from Borger to St. Louis, will also be reversed to move Midcontinent barrels toward Borger and into the Western Gateway system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th><strong>The big picture<\/strong><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed Western Gateway project combines new and existing infrastructure to create an efficient and scalable corridor that addresses growing Arizona demand and anticipated California supply constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis project is about more than barrels \u2014 it\u2019s about building resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By connecting our midcontinent Refineries to Kinder Morgan\u2019s Arizona and California terminals, we\u2019re creating a corridor that\u2019s not only efficient but scalable, with further optionality into Nevada.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite>Michael Andrew &#8211; Managing director of midstream commercial and business development<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat optionality and scalability which allows barrels to move beyond the Phoenix market is what sets this project apart from other announced projects to Phoenix,\u201d said Mike Garthwaite.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pipeline will be capable of supplying up to 200,000 barrels per day of Midcontinent refined products into Arizona, replacing volumes currently sourced from California and increasing supply availability for in-state markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>WHAT&#8217;S NEXT<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Phillips 66 will lead construction of the new pipeline and Kinder Morgan will have primary operating responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWestern Gateway will be built with the same rigor and care that reflect our core values \u2014 delivering safe, reliable fuel across the region,\u201d said Bill Johnson, vice president of midstream operations. \u201cSafety is where we begin, and it guides every decision we make.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kinder Morgan Products Pipelines Chief Operating Officer Josh Etzel added, \u201cOur role in the Western Gateway Pipeline reflects our commitment to developing and operating reliable energy infrastructure with the highest standards of safety and performance.
